WICHITA, Kan. (June 16, 2019) – The members of KC and the Sunshine Bowlers of Stephenville made the pins dance at the 2019 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships while taking over the Emerald Team lead Saturday at Northrock Lanes.
The team used a consistent effort, rolling games of 671, 672 and 688, to take the lead by four pins with a 2,031 total. RAI of NE of Ravenna, Nebraska, previously led with 2,027.
Kathy Carlson led KC and the Sunshine Bowlers with a 587 series, and she was joined by Sammie Vaughn (528 series), Sandra Pierce (466) and Teresa Phillips (450).
The sport of bowling has been treating the team members well, including some strong on-lane performances from both family and friends in recent months.
They were excited to add their names to that list as they looked to make their way toward the top of the leaderboard.
“It’s just been such an exciting year for all of us, and we really hope we can hold onto the lead,” said Carlson, who made her 29th USBC Women’s Championships appearance. “We knew we were in the top 10, because Sandra wrote down the number before we started bowling. We figured we were close to the top but didn’t expect to be this high in the standings.”
The team has been competing with and against each other for years in Texas, and they hope to share one more experience as tournament champions. The 2019 Women’s Championships will conclude June 30.
Emerald Team features four-player groups with combined entering averages of 575-649.
