STEPHENVILLE – Head Coach Misty Wilson has announced the 2019-20 Tarleton Women’s Basketball schedule that officially begins at home on Nov. 8 with the Texan Tip-Off Classic.

Before the tournament, the Texans will start with a pair of exhibition games at home on Oct. 30 against East Texas Baptist and Nov. 2 against Texas Wesleyan.

This season, the Texans will play a 28-game schedule, including 16 home games in Wisdom Gym. The schedule consists of six non-conference games and 22 Lone Star Conference matchups with the merging of the Heartland Conference and LSC.

The LSC will be split into three divisions, with Tarleton’s division featuring Texas Woman’s, St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Texas A&M International. The Texans will play a home-and-home schedule with each team in its division and then play the rest of the conference once and alternate locations on a year-to-year basis.

“I think everyone in our conference is excited and curious about the addition of the Heartland Conference teams as well as the three-division format and how that will play out throughout the season,” said sixth-year head coach Misty Wilson. “We had to get a little more creative in scheduling non-conference games with the Lone Star Conference covering the state of Texas, however, I am excited about playing teams in different conferences and even regions.”

The Texan Tip-Off Classic features a pair of RMAC opponents in Adams State on Nov. 8 and Colorado Mesa on Nov. 9. Cameron will be the other LSC representative in the tournament. The rest of the non-conference schedule will be home games against East Central on Nov. 14, Arlington Baptist on Nov. 21 and McMurry on New Year’s Eve. The Texans’ lone non-conference road game is against Pitt State on Nov. 27 in Pittsburg, Kansas.

“I believe, as always, that we have a tough non-conference schedule that will do its part in providing adversity and challenges that we will be able to learn and grow from early, and hopefully draw on those experiences come conference and postseason play,” Wilson added.  “We are playing three Division II teams that are coming off of a 20-win season in Colorado Mesa, East Central, and Pittsburg State. We open with an RMAC conference challenge against two in-region teams in Adams State and Colorado Mesa, who hosted part of the NCAA South Central Regional last season.”

Lone Star Conference play begins on Nov. 23 when the Texans host Texas Woman’s. The Texans will play three straight road games at Pitt State, Angelo State (Dec. 5) and the defending national champions in Lubbock Christian (Dec. 14) before returning home for five straight games from Dec. 19 – Jan. 4.

The non-divisional conference home games will be against UT-Tyler (Dec. 19), Texas A&M-Commerce (Dec. 21), UT Permian Basin (Jan. 16), Western New Mexico (Jan. 18), Midwestern State (Feb. 6), and Cameron (Feb. 8).

The Lone Star Conference Tournament returns to Frisco from March 5-8 at the Comerica Center.

Tarleton is coming off a 22-9 season where they went 14-6 in the LSC and 13-2 at home and advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the third straight year under Wilson.

“I am excited about the challenge of our schedule including the conference games that we will play in early November,” Wilson said. “The pressure that those games bring will be different to navigate, but I am excited about the newness of it all and look forward to the challenge our schedule presents.”
