STEPHENVILLE (November 20, 2014) — It’s early signing week for college teams to add to their 2016 softball rosters, and 19th year Tarleton State head coach Julie Mata believes her staff has inked a future standout in corner infielder Amanda Conner.
“Amanda is a great addition to our 2016 roster,” said Mata, according to a Wednesday release from the Tarleton Athletics Communications Department. “(Assistant coach Mark Cumpian) did a great job identifying a talented softball player with a great deal of drive,
determination and heart.”

Tarleton will have just one senior in 2015, so Conner, a Lucas Lovejoy High School star, will be joining a team that should return largely intact.
“Bringing in another smart, hard working, big-hitting young lady was the plan,” said Mata, according to the release.
Conner was the District 13-4A Defensive Player of the Year and a third-team all-state selection last season, helping Lovejoy reach the 4A (now 5A) state final.
“There is no doubt Amanda is the type of player that will bring a positive impact to our program right away,” said Cumpian, according to the release. “Not only were we able to add another big bat to our roster, but we added a great and fundamentally-sound athlete who knows what it takes to win.”
