(November 20, 2014) — By now the secret is out – Tarleton State has one of the nation’s best freshmen in outside hitter Hailey Roberts. They also have one of the top junior transfers in 6-4 middle blocker Kenya Alexander.
Daktronics named Roberts and Tarleton teammate Kenya Alexander to its South Central all-region team, released Wednesday. They were each previously honored by the Lone Star Conference, Roberts as LSC Freshman of the Year and as LSC Defensive Player of the Year.
The tandem led Tarleton to its first-ever LSC tournament championship last week, and next up is the program’s first appearance in the Division II Championship. The TexAnns open South Central Region Tournament play at noon on Friday. They are the No. 6 seed and face No. 3 Metro State (Colo.). The tournament is hosted by No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Alexander, a Fort Hood, Kansas product who transferred to Tarleton from Kansas City Community College, leads the nation with 1.50 blocks per set and has 155 total blocks. Roberts, a Cedar Park product, has 477 kills and has scored 564.5 points.
