STEPHENVILLE (November 22, 2014) — Tarleton State had five scorers in double figures and hit 60 percent from the 3-point arc in an 88-58 thumping of Dallas Christian at Wisdom Gym Saturday night.
Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman has said since Nosa Ebomwonyi signed his national letter of intent that he expected quality minutes from the Pflugerville product right away. Ebomwonyi showed the home crowd what all the fuss was about in the first half, when he hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points.
Ebomwonyi cooled off after the intermission, but Tarleton kept pulling away. The Texans shot 55.2 percent from the floor and were 12-20 from outside the arc. TaShawn Mabry, who was inserted into the starting lineup for the first time this season, was 3-3 from deep and Ebomwonyi finished 4-6.
Point guard Michael Hardge matched the freshman’s 14 points and also dealt six assists, while EJ Reed and Davene Carter each had 12 and Teven Jones added 10.
The Texans forced 25 turnovers and turned them into 28 points. They also outscored Dallas Christian 40-30 in the paint.
Tarleton’s best shooting night meant a season-best 88 points. The Texans averaged 85.8 points last season but were scoring just 68.5 through their opening two games.
The Texans are hosting their inaugural Thanksgiving Classic next weekend. They face Pittsburg State, the alma mater of Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman, on Friday, and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, both at 7 p.m.
