If your usual driving route in Stephenville takes you along N. Harbin Drive, take another way until after the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to Stephenville city officials, construction, which is part of a streets project that has been in the planning stages for a while and is now in the action stage, will have the roadway blocked for the better part of this week. When the street isn’t completely closed, officials said it would be down to one lane with a flagger at both ends.
The construction affects traffic running adjacent to the Tarleton State University Memorial Stadium visitors’ parking lot and the city’s old Fire Station No. 2 at Frey Street, down to the intersection with the Northwest Loop near Allsup’s and JayCee Park.
City officials said the $168,000 project, which is part of the city’s plan to fix several major city streets, will have the roadway blocked off until at least Wednesday afternoon as crews work to have the repairs and resurfacing done before the Thanksgiving holiday. During a previous Stephenville City Council meeting, members of the council approved the project to be paid for out of the city’s funds budgeted for such projects.
Officials said if the weather holds up, the crews should be putting the finishing touches on a resurfaced Harbin Drive Wednesday and the roadway would be reopened on Thursday. However, with many road construction projects, the crew working on the street told Flash reporters Monday morning, they were prepared to come back Friday following Thanksgiving if need be.
Until the repairs are completed, motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible and to plan alternate routes around Harbin as the roadway is closed to through traffic.
