1st Quarter summary:
FAITH jumped ahead quickly before Fort Bend Homeschool charged back with a long pass setting up a short TD run. The Knights took advantage of a Chargers fumble to move ahead 16-8, and that’s how the quarter ended.
2nd Quarter summary:
Shadd Cole, reigning National Homeschool Player of the Year, kept the ball for a TD and a 24-8 FAITH lead, but Fort Bend scored twice in the final 90 seconds to cut its deficit to 24-22 at the intermission.
3rd Quarter summary:
Fort Bend intercepted a FAITH pass and after a host of penalties both ways punched it in on a QB keeper. The one-point conversion is successful and the Chargers lead the Knights 29-24 with 2:07 left in the third.
FAITH is going for it on fourth and short after a completion from Cole to Joey Braun… Wow, FAITH converts on fourth down. The protectors give Cole all day to throw and he hits fellow all-state selection Travis Loper with the long TD pass! 32-29 Knights with 6 seconds left in the third.
4th Quarter under way:
Fort Bend fumbled, the Knights recovered, and Shadd Cole had a huge run to set up his own short TD! FAITH extends to a two possession lead with 8:57 remaining! Travis Loper makes a huge fourth down stop at the FAITH one to deny the Chargers! FAITH takes over with 5:46 left!
The Knights had to punt, but the Chargers muffed it and Joey Braun recovered! FAITH then fakes a punt four plays later and Cole scrambles for big yards to the Chargers’ 32! That should about do it with under 90 seconds left!!!
Joey Braun takes a knee and it’s all over! Knights win 38-29 for fourth straight state title!
