(November 27, 2014) — Karli Moore grabbed an offensive rebound and knocked down the put back with 17 seconds remaining in overtime as Tarleton State (3-1) knocked off Lubbock Christian (3-2) 73-71 in the Lowe’s Market Thanksgiving Classic in Lubbock Friday.
The TexAnns reached the overtime on the back of senior guard Kathy Thomas, whose career night included a jumper to tie the score at 65-65 with 22 seconds left in regulation.
Thomas was a perfect 7-7 from the arc and 9-14 from the floor on her way to a career-high 25 points for Tarleton. She hit a 3-pointer to even the score again just more than a minute into the overtime, and teammate Bailey Wipff followed with a long ball for a 71-70 TexAnn edge with 2:05 left.
Haley Fowler made the second of two free throws to tie it up for Lubbock Christian with 1:48 to go, and the teams exchanged stops. Wipff missed a Tarleton 3-pointer, but made up for it by collecting a defensive rebound with 49 seconds left.
Meagan O’Dell launched a 3-ball and missed with 25 seconds on the clock, but Moore was there for the rebound and game winner. LCU’s Haley Burton missed a 3-pointer at the other end as time expired.
Thomas was one of four TexAnns in double figures as Moore and Ikpeaku Iwobi each scored 13 inside and O’Dell tallied 12 on four 3-pointers. Thomas and Moore combined for 11-13 from the arc, and as a team Tarleton shot 61.9 percent from deep and 44.8 percent overall. The TexAnns were a perfect 8-8 from the foul stripe.
Fowler paced Lubbock Christian with 19 points while Allison Szabo scored 16 and collected 10 boards. LCU shot 41 percent from the floor but only 25 percent from 3-point range.
