PRCA bareback rider and former Tarleton State University rodeo team member Colt Bruce, 23 of Stephenville, was killed in a single-vehicle accident just outside of Weatherford early Thursday morning.

According to a report published by the Weatherford Democrat, Bruce was found dead on Old Garner Road, where it appeared a Toyota Corolla left the roadway and struck a group of trees. Officials said it is believed at least one other person was traveling with Bruce at the time of the accident. Parker County Sheriff’s Office said they received a number of reports in the area of someone knocking on doors at the time of the incident – around 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Bruce was a 2010 graduate of Aledo High School, and he later attended Tarleton State as a member of the rodeo team. Bruce was also a bareback rider in the PRCA, UPRA and CPRA rodeo organizations.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main Street in Weatherford. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the Bruce family suggests consideration of contributions in Colt’s memory to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, 101 Pro Rodeo Drive, Colorado Springs, Colo., 80919 or by email at jccfinfo@prorodeo.com.
