Sport: (December 8, 2014) — There was little slowing and no stopping No. 22 Lingleville on its way to the title in Gustine’s tournament Thursday through Saturday.

The Cardinals slowed a bit against a four-corners stall in the tournament opener, won anyway, then presumed to rout the competition the rest of the way.

Lingleville jumped out to a 43-20 advantage by halftime and beat Santa Anna 65-42. Colbe Stoker led the way with 17 points while Tim Griffin netted 15. Bart VanKranenburg and Sergio Rangel had eight each, Tom VanKranenburg seven and Bailey Fenn six.

“We shot the ball well in that one. We hit 11 threes for the second straight game,” said third-year Lingleville head coach Kade Eckert.

The Cards were slowed by Mullin’s stall offense, scoring just 18 points and leading by only two at halftime in their Thursday night contest. But they responded with a 26 points second half, with Griffin netting all of his 14 after the intermission in the 44-35 win. Bart VanKranenburg scored 10, Stoker eight and Meine Huisman seven.

The offense returned to form in a 65-23 rout of Gustine Friday, when 12 different Cardinals scored points. Griffin led the way with 21 while Stoker scored eight, Parker Hallmark six and Brett Cogburn five.

Lohn never had a chance thanks to a career performance by Bart VanKranenburg Friday night. He had 23 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks in the 78-27 romp. It was decided by halftime when Lingleville already had 45 points. Twelve different players scored again, including Griffin with 20, Tom VanKranenburg eight and Stoker seven.

Mullin foreited the final, preventing the Cards from having to play a fifth game in three days. The four wins in two days pushed their season mark to 9-1.

A tough test awaits Tuesday when the 1A No. 22 Cards host 2A No. 22 Poolville at approximately 7:30 p.m.
