The TexAnns’ first game in the Rollins Invitational Tournament snapped a four-game win streak for the Tarleton women’s team. The TexAnns (5-2) dropped a heartbreaker in a 57-51 loss to the University of Indianapolis (3-4) Monday.

According to a release from the university, the TexAnns shot 38 percent from the floor and 31 from the three-point line while attempting only 10 total free throws (making six of them). Tarleton was led in points by seniors Kathy ‘KT’ Thomas and Karli Moore with 10 each, Breanna Fullar with eight and Raven McGrath with six. Moore tied her career high nine rebounds, which also led the team.

The TexAnns’ Bailey Wipff started a quick 9-5 run which put TSU in the lead just 5:34 in the game. But the Greyhounds charged back, scoring 11 unanswered to jump ahead 18-9. But Tarleton pushed back with some threes and were on top 23-22 with less than four minutes left to play in the half.

Some Tarleton faithful pointed to controversy as the TexAnns were held to 6-8 on free throws in the first half compared to Indy’s 16-28 attempts and TSU’s 1-2 in the second against U of I’s 8-15 at the line. But in the last four minutes of the first half, TSU would only make a layup and three free throws while Indy answered with 10 more points to end the half ahead 32-28.

TSU came out of the locker room at the half on fire with Wipff and Meagan O’Dell going on a seven point run, giving Tarleton its last lead of the game. The Greyhounds would come roaring back with an 18-4 push over the next 13 minutes bringing the score to 50-39 with less than 10 minutes left to play, and the TexAnns couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Morgan Ashmore, Wipff and O’Dell each added five points to the TexAnns’ score while Ikpeaku Iwobi put up two of her own.
