Now No. 4, unbeaten Tarleton hosts SD Mines Tuesday night

Sport: (December 30, 2014) — Tarleton State enters Tuesday’s game against South Dakota Mines as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, according to this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II poll, released early afternoon Tuesday.

The game against Mines tips off at 7 p.m. at Wisdom Gym, where Tarleton has lost just one game the past two seasons.

The undefeated Texans (10-0) climbed one spot in the poll, thanks to recent victories over Paul Quinn College then Division II powers Western Washington and Drury, paired with then-No. 3 Central Missouri’s 15-point loss to unranked Central Oklahoma.

It’s the 23rd straight poll in which Tarleton has been ranked in the top 25 by the NABC, the 91st poll in school history to include the Texans and the 57th time Tarleton has been listed among the top five.

Tarleton is one of two Lone Star Conference members in this week’s top 25. Angelo State (11-1) is No. 22. The Texans visit ASU in each team’s LSC opener, next Wednesday, Jan. 7. Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State are not ranked but received votes.

Other ranked clubs from the South Central Region include No. 3 Colorado-Colorado Springs, No. 9 Colorado School of Mines and No. 10 Metropolitan State (Colo.), all of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and No. 17 St. Edward’s (Texas) of the Heartland Conference.
