STEPHENVILLE (January 14, 2015) — Take a step back in time and learn what your ancestors did to stay clean during a free program about the ancient art of soap making at Tarleton State University’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas.

On Sunday, Jan. 18, Shanah Coe, owner and founder of Strawn, Texas-based An Ancient Art Handcrafted Soap Company, will provide a free program to discuss the process and demonstrate the making of soap from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to try the company’s line of essential oils.

Coe co-founded An Ancient Art Handcrafted Soap Company in 2000 in nearby Strawn, and uses olive oil as the base combined with other oils and herbs when creating her fragrant, handmade soaps. A beautician by trade, Coe began making soaps in her beauty salon, educating herself on the process of soap making.

The W.K. Gordon Center, a Tarleton museum and research facility, is located at exit 367 on Interstate 20 midway between Fort Worth and Abilene.
