Senior forward pours in 31, Texans shoot 66.7 percent in 89-64 road win

(January 24, 2015) — Senior forward TaShawn Mabry topped 30 points for the first time in his two-year career at Tarleton State, and the No. 15 Texans (16-2, 4-2) shot a season-best 66.7 percent in a 89-64 Lone Star Conference win at Eastern New Mexico (7-12, 0-6) Saturday.

Mabry, who combined for 54 points and 11 rebounds in two wins this week, was 13-19 from the field Saturday, and the rest of the Texans weren’t too shabby, either, combining for 19-29.

Dunks by Mabry and EJ Reed along with five points by Malcolm Hamilton highlighted an 11-0 first half run by the Texans, and they were in control the rest of the way. Reed scored 15, including 13 in the first half.

Mabry was the first Tarleton player to score 30 in a game since De’Andre Upchurch lit up ENMU for 38 last season, also at Greyhound Arena in Portales.

Mo Lee and Michael Hardge each scored 11 for the Texans. They combined to distribute nine assists and go 3-for-3 from the arc, where Tarleton wa 10-17 (58.8 percent).

Tarleton enjoyed its largest rebounding margin of the season, collecting 40 rebounds to just 21 by ENMU. Damion Clemons had seven boards to go with six points for the Texans, while Hamilton finished with six boards and seven points and Davene Carter came off the bench to also grab six boards.

John Gilliam and Demetrius Balark led ENMU with 20 points and 17, respectively. The Greyhounds shot 41.4 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from the arc.

Notes: Tarleton is 44-5 over its last 49 games dating back to last season…Tarleton 27th-year head coach Lonn Reisman improved to 36-7 against ENMU…Carter came off the bench for the second straight game after 47 consecutive starts dating back to the start of last season…Tarleton hosts McMurry at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, following a 5:30 women’s contest at Wisdom Gym.
