Sport: Huston Academy Superintendent Debra Miller announced during Wednesday’s homecoming festivities that she will “transitioning away” from the charter school she established in 1999.

Huston Academy began as Erath Excels Academy, which is still the name of a charter district that also includes Shoreline Academy in Taft.

Miller will relinquish her administrative duties and move to Austin with her husband, new Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.

“It’s been a fun ride through the years,” said Miller in a brief speech to begin the homecoming event, which also celebrated National School Choice Week. “But I’m going to transition out soon. I will still be on the school board, because in a charter school I can do that, but I will be transitioning away to Austin.”

Erath Excels began in downtown Stephenville in an old doctor’s office. After a series of moves, the school has spent the last five years just off of US Highway 377 on Peach Orchard Road, past Bramlett Implement.
