Sport: STEPHENVILLE (January 28, 2015) — For more than 28 minutes Tarleton State struggled, leaving the TexAnns clinging to a narrow 33-31 edge over lowly McMurry Wednesday evening.

Then, everything changed.

Tarleton (11-5) closed the game on a 31-6 run, holding McMurry (2-18) without a single field goal over the final 11:50 in what ended up as a 64-37 rout of the Warhawks at Wisdom Gym.

Tarleton made eight of its final 15 shots attempts, while McMurry made none of its last 15.

Eleven different TexAnn players scored points during the dominating closing stretch, which gave Tarleton its 24th consecutive win over McMurry, the longest win streak the TexAnns have ever held over a single opponent since joining the NCAA.

The win was Tarleton’s third straight overall and came in a one-game hiatus from Lone Star Conference play. The TexAnns resume LSC action at Texas A&M-Commerce at 4 p.m. Saturday.

There were 13 TexAnn scorers in all, led by Breanna Fuller with 11 points and eight rebounds and Bailey Wipff, also with 11. It was Wipff’s third straight game to reach double figures.

Kathy Thomas had back-to-back 3-pointers – both off assists from Raven McGrath – early in Tarleton’s decisive run, pushing the lead to 41-31, and the margin only widened from there. Thomas scored eight, and McGrath had five points, five boards and five assists. Karli Moore, Morgan Ashmore and true freshman Averie Mack also scored five each.

The TexAnns out-rebounded McMurry 54-29, including 20-6 on the offensive glass. They cashed that in for a 21-0 advantage in second-chance points while also outscoring the Warhawks 23-9 in points off turnovers, 22-10 in the paint and 31-5 off the bench.

McMurry shot a paltry 24.5 percent and was led by Adijatu Disu with 14 points and Haley Welch with 10.
