FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:30 P.M. Sunday, February 8, 2015, at First United Methodist Church of Comanche.

BURIAL: Newburg Cemetery in Comanche County.

VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

LUNCH: Lunch for the family will be at 12:30 P.M. on Sunday at First United Methodist Church.

Sue Barret Vines, age 79, passed away on Thursday, February 05, 2015, in Brownwood, Texas, after a long illness.

She was born on May 3, 1935, in Comanche, Texas, to Walter and Isla Barret. Sue attended Comanche schools and graduated in 1953. While in high school she was a twirler, member of the Texas All State Band, High School Annual Editor, and was selected most outstanding girl in her senior class.

After graduating from high school she attended Texas Tech University. She married the love of her life, Jerry Landon Vines, on June 18, 1954, and from this marriage three sons were born, Landon, John and Jim. After their marriage, Jerry joined the United States Air Force and they were stationed in Bartow, Florida, for Jerry to start his pilot training. Next they were assigned to Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock for advance pilot training and then at Goodfellow Air Force Bas in San Angelo as an instructor pilot, and their last move to Lackland Air Force Base, as cadet training officer in San Antonio. After Jerry left the Air force, he joined the Texas Agricultural Extension Service as a County Agent in the Rio Grande Valley and then served as County Extension Agent in Lampasas County. While living in Lampasas Sue worked as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Lampasas.

Sue, Jerry and their three sons moved from Lampasas back home to Comanche in 1968. She worked until she retired after twenty years from the Comanche County Electric Co-op. She was very active in the Community, serving as a member of the First United Methodist Church for fifty years, member of the Comanche Study Club, and playing Bridge with many of her friends. She also was a faithful volunteer for many organizations in the community. Sue was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Jerry Vines of Early; sons, Landon Vines and wife Betty of Richardson, John Vines and wife Debbie of Early, and Jim Vines and wife Julie of Waco. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jared Vines and wife Misty of Dickinson, Zack Vines of San Antonio, Joe Vines of College Station, Kristin Vines Seward and husband Jonathan of Denver, Staci Vines of San Marcos, Kayla Vines Land and husband Kelcey of Colleyville; four great-grandchildren, Maverick and Jaiden Vines of Dickinson, Keiser and Kason Land of Colleyville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Isla Barret; brothers, Walter Jack Barret and Kyle Barret; and granddaughter, Brittany Vines.
