Leatherwood to run for Dublin Mayor again

DUBLIN (February 11, 2015) — There’s unfinished business in Dublin, and Mayor David Leatherwood said Wednesday night, he hopes the people of Dublin let him see it through.

“We’re going in the right direction with the city council and with the city of Dublin,” Leatherwood said after filing for re-election. “I’d like to see everything we’ve got going right now through. The council is making great changes for our city and our citizens. I can’t wait to see where we go next.”

Leatherwood was elected mayor of Dublin in May 2013. Council seats up for re-election include Ward 1 – John Johnson, Ward 2 – Bobby Mendez, Ward 3 – David Zinck and Ward 4 – Melvin ‘Mac’ McMullen.

Dublin School Board also approved a motion to call for the general election on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Board members are elected on an at-large system, meaning the three board members up for re-election in 2015 will run against anyone who signs up to run against them for the three seats up for grabs.

Those board members are Charlie Bradberry, Jeff Weaver and Lathes Towns. The DISD School Board President is appointed each year by the board members following the general election and swearing in of the new members to the board. Currently, Mike Jurney is the board president and has served as president for the past three years.

Community members interested in running can contact Dublin City Hall for City Council and DISD Administration Office for School Board.
