Law enforcement announced Friday morning that they were calling off a manhunt for Bernardo Ramirez, 27, who they believe murdered his 18-year-old girlfriend, Maria Ramirez, at about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday on S. Water Street in San Saba.
Maria Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe head trauma, according to reports from the scene. Immediately, San Saba police officials said officers began looking for Bernardo Ramirez in connection with her death.
Officers reported on Thursday that Bernardo Ramirez was last seen wearing a brown shirt, black pants and he normally wears his hair in a mohawk. He is a Hispanic male, 5-foot, 6-inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds.
The search stemmed from a felony traffic stop that was initiated by a San Saba officer that Ramirez fled from on foot. Later, officers found evidence that Ramirez took a white Ford Expedition and later abandoned it and entered Lampasas County, which extended the search. Officers from the Texas Rangers, Texas DPS, Texas Game Wardens, Lampasas and San Saba County Sheriff’s Offices and San Saba Police worked together for the past two days looking for Ramirez.
However, they’ve called off the search, saying they believe the suspect has left the area. A warrant has been issued by the San Saba Police Department for Ramirez, charging him with murder.
