(February 18, 2015) — Senior guard Kathy Thomas poured in 25 points – one short of her career high – and Tarleton State scored 10 straight points early in the second half, but none of that could undo a fast start by No. 4 West Texas A&M.
The Lady Buffs continued to show their dominance of the Lone Star Conference Wednesday night, scoring the first 15 points en rout to a 76-63 victory at First United Bank Center in Canyon. West Texas A&M (21-2, 12-2) has a 1.5 game lead atop the LSC standings, while Tarleton (14-9, 7-7) slipped into fifth. The TexAnns are half a game behind Texas A&M-Commerce and half a game ahead of Texas Woman’s.
WTAMU shot 56.8 percent from the floor and led wire-to-wire and by as many as 19 points. Lady Buff star forward Chontiquah White was 10-12 from the floor, amassing 26 points to go with nine rebounds.
Thomas was the only Tarleton player in double figures, though Ikpeaku Iwobi just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Senior forward Karli Moore and junior guard Bailey Wipff scored eight each for the TexAnns, who welcome Eastern New Mexico to Wisdom Gym at 5 p.m. Saturday.
