LSC honors seven from Tarleton – four men, three women

(March 3, 2015) — Tarleton State was presented its Lone Star Conference regular-season championship trophy at the league’s awards banquet Tuesday night in Allen.

The ceremony kicks off the 2015 LSC Championship tournament, set for Wednesday through Saturday at Allen Event Center. Tarleton has the top-seeded men’s team taking on No. 8 seed Eastern New Mexico at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, while the No. 4 seed TexAnns face No. 5 Texas Woman’s at 6 p.m. Thursday in a women’s quarterfinal.

The ceremony was also a crowning moment for Jakob Damstra, the LSC’s Academic Player of the Year, and Mo Lee, a first-team all-conference selection after scoring 20 or more points seven times in the final 12 games of the regular season.

Also from Tarleton, junior point guard Michael Hardge is a men’s second-team selection, Kathy Thomas a women’s second-team pick and Karli Moore a women’s all-academic honoree. Ikpeaku Iwobi is honorable-mention All-LSC.

Damion Clemons earned a spot on the men’s all-defensive team.

For the season, Lee averaged 15.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while Hardge scored 10.3 points, dealt 3.6 assists and grabbed 1.5 steals.

Thomas,a senior guard, scores 14.2 points, deals 2.8 assists and snares 1.5 steals per game for the Tarleton women. Iwobi had eight double-doubles, averaging 10.5 points and 8.6 rebounds.

Damstra,a junior pre-med major from Dublin, sports a 3.8 grade point average and is the first Tarleton men’s player ever to take the top academic honor in the LSC.
