MEMORIALS: In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 783, Comanche, Texas 76442, in the name of Jacquelyn Till.

Jacquelyn Head Till was born on December 11, 1932 in Bryan Texas during an ice storm. Due to the storm she was born at home, and was delivered by her father. Her parents were Virgil Jack Head and Lester Lee (Hawkins) Head. Her father tragically passed away when Jacquelyn was two. Her early life was marked by the Great Depression and World War II. In telling stories of her early life she never complained. Even though times must have been very difficult she only noted how great her life was. Her family moved to Houston in 1944 where she attended Milby High School and worked at the Santa Rosa Movie Theater behind the candy counter. When she came to work at age 16 she caught the eye of, Paul Heath Till. For Paul it was love at first sight. It did not take long for the first spark of young love to grow to a mighty blaze. This love for Paul she carried every day for the rest of her life. She graduated with honors from Milby High School in 1950 and was offered a full scholarship to Rice Institute. Jacquelyn turned down this scholarship because she preferred to devote her life to her love for Paul and to start a family. On December 21, 1951 in spite the objections of both families she became Jacquelyn Till the wife of a proud but poor Paul Heath Till. This young couple was poor in finance but rich in love. It was not long before Jacquelyn gave birth to three sons, Christopher, Keith, and Jesse. For the rest of her life she devoted her life completely to her husband and sons. Throughout her life Jacquelyn and Paul had a love for Texas, its history, individualism, and personal freedom. They instilled these values into their sons. She also possessed a strong sense of right and wrong. Disturbed by the direction of our government, she along with her husband became very active in the Republican Party in 1963. During this period of her life she was a devoted member of the party, a trusted ally, and a formidable adversary. She served in a many capacities most notable as a member of the Republican State Executive Committee, Committeewoman for State Senatorial District 13, as listed in the 1974 and 1975 Texas Almanac, and a Texas State Delegate to the National Convention in1976. She was Campaign Chairman for her husband’s successful bids for Justice of the Peace where he earned the title Honorable Judge Paul Heath Till in 1974. This period and the rest of her life was very fulfilling and satisfying as she watched the seeds she planted and helped nurture grow – her husband successful, her sons grown into manhood and married and having children of their own. Sure there were setbacks. She experienced bouts with cancer and the loss of her mother, but through it all she remained true and strong. After the retirement of her husband they were able to realize one of their life long dreams to have a piece of Texas to call their own, a working ranch in Comanche County. There, away from the city, she was surrounded by the man she loved, nature, and the Texas she so loved. Jacquelyn was a good Christian woman and a grand lady. She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved. Jacquelyn Till passed away on March 10, 2015. Words can never describe how much she will be missed. She is survived by her husband Judge Paul Heath Till, her three sons and their wives, seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, their number still growing. The legacy of this great woman still goes on through her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While she is now with God she will always be in our hearts.
