ERATH COUNTY (March 16, 2015) — Firefighters from Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue, Harbin Volunteer Fire Department, Selden Volunteer Fire Department, Carlton Volunteer Fire Department, Hico Fire Department and more were on scene at a grass fire off County Road 293 for well over two hours Monday.

According to officials, the fire burned over 80 acres, but units worked together quickly to get the fire under control again. On scene, firefighters spoke to the property owner, who advised a controlled fire had gotten out of control and light winds carried the flames into taller, dead grass. Recent rains may have caused some grass to turn green, but not all, especially in pastures, which is what fed this fire, officials said.
