STEPHENVILLE (March 20, 2015) — Due to continued rainfall and additional precipitation forecast for Saturday, March 21, Tarleton State University has announced plans to postpone its 17th annual Round Up day of service until next Saturday, March 28.

Round Up, the university’s largest single day of service project, will continue as previously scheduled, only next weekend. Tarleton Round Up is a student-led, student-initiated project held in cooperation with the city of Stephenville, Keep Stephenville Beautiful, Bulldog Shredding and Progressive Waste Solutions.

This year’s Tarleton Round Up will involve 1,000 student, faculty and staff volunteers who will tackle approximately 100 approved job sites throughout the Stephenville community. Services offered through Tarleton Round Up include window washing, cleaning and sweeping, painting, hedge trimming, dirt moving and digging, leaf raking and bagging, garden and lawn work, recycling and tire haul-off, identity theft protection and sensitive document shredding.

Due to its popularity in 2014, Round Up will again offer recycling and document shredding services. A drop-off point for recyclables and sensitive documents for confidential shredding will be available on the visitor’s side (Harbin Drive) parking lot of Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium.

In addition to Tarleton Round Up being postponed one week, the Tarleton Environmental Society has decided to conduct their 3rd annual Bosque River Clean Up on March 28.

Community members, youth groups or businesses are invited to join the Environmental Society students to rid the Bosque watershed of trash and debris within the Stephenville City Park and along the Bosque River Trail.

A command center with trash bags and clean-up materials will be located at the gazebo within the city park. Volunteers may check in from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 28. Society members plan to bring kayaks and several pair of waders for those willing to enter the river to retrieve trash. Volunteers are asked to bring waterproof boots, gloves, kayaks or their own waders if possible.

In addition to serving Tarleton’s home community of Stephenville, Round Up is expanding in 2015 to include the university’s outreach campuses in Waco, Weatherford and Fort Worth where students, faculty and staff will host service projects on March 28 in their respective communities.

“The Tarleton Round Up committee would like to invite all Tarleton alumni to join us in this effort,” said McCann. “Alumni residing in areas with a Tarleton campus are encouraged to sign up to volunteer with students in Stephenville and at the outreach campuses. Alumni can also complete a service project of their own on March 28 and, if they send us photos and a brief story, we will send them a 2015 Tarleton Round Up t-shirt!”
