(March 23, 2015) — The District 4-4A girls soccer championship came down to penalty kicks Tuesday evening, and this time went in Wylie’s favor.
Stephenville won the last time the Honeybees went to PKs with Wylie, but not this time. Not with the district championship on the line.
Tatum Sharp scored two goals, the second off a nifty assist from Bayleigh Chaviers, to dig Stephenville out of a 2-0 hole. Wylie appeared to have an insurmountable advantage after moving ahead 2-0 in the 49th minute.
The Bees answered moments later with Sharp’s first goal, then the striker added the equalizer.
As runner-up in 4-4A, Stephenville faces Springtown, the third-place finisher in 3-4A in the bi-districdt round of the playoffs. That match is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Weatherford.
It will be a doubleheader in Weatherford, with the Stephenville boys placing third in 4-4A and taking on 3-4A runner-up Springtown at 7:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-1 to Wylie Tuesday, with their only goal provided by sophomore Aaron Veloz with assist from Brady Alford.
