STEPHENVILLE (March 23, 2015) — Tarleton State University will observe its annual Silver Taps ceremony to remember and honor members of the Tarleton family who have passed away during the previous year on Thursday, April 9. The 7:30 p.m. event is part of Tarleton Founder’s Week.

The ceremony will take place at the Hunewell Bandstand in Heritage Park, near the intersection of Tarleton and McIlhaney streets. The public is invited to attend as the university family remembers deceased alumni, faculty, staff and friends.

Students and other volunteers carry flowers and candles to represent each of the 200 individuals whose names are called. As the ceremony concludes, a wreath is placed at the Tarleton Military Memorial. Volunteers file by the memorial to place flowers at its base. The Tarleton Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) then plays Taps and performs a 21-gun salute.

Silver Taps is hosted by the Tarleton Ambassadors student organization, ROTC, The Division of Advancement and External Relations and the Tarleton Alumni Association.

Interested volunteers who would like to participate in the ceremony by holding a candle in memory of a member of the Tarleton family may sign up online at: https://tarleton.wufoo.com/forms/silver-taps-volunteer-form/. Volunteers need to report to Hunewell Bandstand at 6:30 p.m. for rehearsal.
