Professional team roper York Gill and his girlfriend Christy Stransky are listed in stable condition after the 2001 Piper PA-32R-301T Gill was piloting crashed during an apparent emergency landing attempt at the Stephenville Municipal Airport.
Witnesses reported the plane took off and came toward the airport and either hit a power line or the top of a tree and flipped over onto its top. The plane came to rest just a few feet short of U.S. Highway 67 about two miles south of Stephenville.
Gill is reported to have suffered cracked vertebrae and a broken clavicle with cuts and lacerations. He was transported by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Stransky was transported Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville after suffering an unknown number of broken bones. She was also reported to have been later transferred to John Peter Smith Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Gill purchased the plane in January and was reported to be on a trip to near the Houston area when the mishap occurred.
