(March 27, 2015) — There’s a new boutique in town, just a short hike upstairs off of Washington Street across from the Tarleton State University horticulture building.
Wild Mimosa Boutique has been open just more than a month under the operating and ownership of lifelong Erath County resident Jordan Traweek. A graduate of Lingleville High School and a a single mother, Traweek combined a dream of entrepreneurship with a love of boutique-style shopping with this venture, and shared her experiences and plans with The Flash Today.
Q) Why did you choose to have your business here in Stephenville?
A) Because I was born here and I love it here. This is the type f community where I would like to raise my son, Maddox. He’s five.
Q) When you were looking to get into business, why did you choose the boutique industry?
A) I love clothes, I’m a shopaholic. It’s awful how much I shop. Now, I can shop for business, it’s part of my living, and that’s good.
Q) What is it like being a single mother and running a business?
A) It’s hard, but Maddox is actually a big help. He helps me a lot up here and he’s a ladies’ man. That’s a good skill to have up here.
Q) Will you describe the style of clothes/merchandise in your store?
A) It’s more city than it is country. The stuff we have is a more modern style or look.
Q) What merchandise do you have besides the typical clothes?
A) We have jewelry and it’s quaint. It’s not as gaudy as you usually see, it’s more dress up jewelry. We have earrings necklaces, rings, bracelets, handbags and purses.
Q) What are some of the primary obstacles you are facing?
A) There are so many other boutiques in town, so carrying different styles of clothing and having competitive prices is definitely a challenge. Ninety percent of the stuff you can get here, you can’t get anywhere else in town. it’s completely different.”
Q) As a small business owner, what does shopping locally mean to you?
A) I shop locally and the local business owners here are so nice. The owner of Blue Flamingo came in and was so complimentary, and I shop at her store. There is enough business for all of us, and I think the local shops should all support each other in an effort to keep the money circulating in our local economy.
Q) What are your ultimate goals?
A) Right now, just spreading the word about my store, getting the name and location out there. I am working on a web presence so that ultimately I’m not reliant just on traffic in the store because I’m making sales online, too.
