Local cowboys thrive in PRCA world standings

STEPHENVILLE (April 9, 2015) — Local cowboys are no stranger to the top of the world rodeo standings, and 2015 is no exception.

With March in the books and April rodeos already under way, 12 Stephenville cowboys find themselves among the top 15 in the world in their respective events.

Clay Tryan of Lipan and Jade Corkill of Huckabay are trying to rope a third straight world championship in the team roping and are currently in first place in the world standings, found at prorodeo.com.

Anyone familiar with rodeo knows many of the top team ropers reside in and round Erath County. In heading, Kaleb Driggers of Huckabay is fifth and Charly Crawford of Huckabay seventh. In heeling, Travis Woodard of Stephenville is third while Lipan’s Patrick Smith is fifth and Dubliner Shay Carroll seventh.

Three Stephenville cowboys are among the top eight in the world tie-down roping standings. Marty Yates if fourth, Chase Williams seventh and Sterling Smith eighth.

Four-time world champion bareback rider Bobby Mote of Huckabay is third, while Stephenville saddle-bronc rider Sterling Crawley is 13th.
