STEPHENVILLE (April 12, 2015) — Tarleton track and field finished Saturday’s Joe Gillespie tri-meet combining for 45 top-three finishes, including 18 first-place finishes, as Texan’s would win the meet by 27.5 points and the TexAnns squeeze out the win finishing six points ahead of the Angelo State Rambelles.

“I thought tonight we had a very good meet, we had a lot of breakthroughs with our athletes and there were a lot of performances that I feel really good about,” said head coach Pat Ponder.  “What I saw in the stands tonight was awesome we had a great crowd and community support that came out, I was really impressed”

Tarleton would start the day with a pair of NCAA provisional performances in the shot put and long jump.

All-American Euphemia Edem finished the day still undefeated in the long jump during outdoor season after recording her third first-place finish in the event.

Edem would break her own school record in the process, adding an additional long .03m (0′-1.5″) to finishing the day with a best jump of 20′-5″ that is currently the No. 2 jump in Division II this season.

In the shot put, Kenny Odunaiya moved up the nationals list with a season best throw on the last throw of the finals recording a 56-11.50 (17.36m) that is currently ranked No. 6 in Division II.

The running events would see Tarleton win nine of the first 10 events in front of the home crowd at Memorial Stadium.

Tarleton would close out the Joe Gillespie tri-meet – a meet named after Tarleton athletic hall of fame track and football coach and current professor in the kinesiology department – by winning the men’s 4x400m relay in a provisional time of 3:13.28. Terrance Gross, who won the 400m earlier in the day with a season best 47.63 -took the early lead for the Texans. Cameron Krc would extend the lead for the Texans on the anchor leg as he ran the final 400m of the 1600m relay.

The Texans finished the meet with 181.5 points ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce (154) and Angelo State (55.5), while the TexAnns (146) finished six points ahead of Angelo State’s 140 points and 59 points ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce (87).

A select group of Tarleton track athletes will travel to Walnut, California for the 2015 Mt. Sac Relays April 15-16.
