DUBLIN (April 21, 2015) — City Council members heard from a motorcycle club, Jerry Lee with the county’s appraisal district, and the city’s financial auditor during the April meeting Monday night.

Several members of the Gypsy Motorcycle Club were on hand to request variances for the Dublin City Park. According to Collin Price, spokesman for the club, five years ago the club held their annual rally in Dublin and everyone really enjoyed it. So when the opportunity to bring the rally back to Dublin arose, Price said they jumped at the chance.

Price said the club has already reserved the park for Memorial Day Weekend, May 22 through May 25. He asked the council to allow the club to give away beer they have already purchased, as well as to distribute Dublin Bottling Works products in the park, so long as they put the drinks in cups instead of the glass bottles they come in. Council members approved both requests.

Jeremy Shell, with Boucher, Morgan and Young, addressed the council regarding the city’s financial audit for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. He reported the city was worth approximately $7.5 million and that the city’s expenditures went over the revenues by more than $213,000, but the city had approximately 4.5 months of operating costs in reserves, which is very healthy. Shell also told the council, the city went over budget for the year by just over $22,000. The audit was accepted unanimously.

Council members also unanimously accepted three motions from Karen Wright, including updates to the EDC bylaws and a transfer of property from the EDC to the Dublin Historical Society. Wright said the property, on the north side of Wright Park where the old cleaners used to stand, was acquired by the EDC during the bid for a grant and cleaned up. The Historical Society wants to take care of the property to “ensure nothing is constructed to obstruct the view or allow it to get overgrown.”

Wright also asked the council to consider placing a historical identification sign on the Hogan Blackjack Shop. This is a joint effort between the Ben Hogan Museum and the Dublin Historical Society. The council approved the measure.

The council also heard from Jerry Lee, from the Erath County Appraisal District, who presented two requests. The first request was to purchase property located at 1197 South Loop West in Stephenville, the second to sale their property located at 1390 Harbin Drive in Stephenville. Lee reported the district has outgrown their current location on Harbin Drive and found it was best to move into the recently vacated AgTexas building than to build on an empty property. Council member unanimously approved the requests. They and DISD both approved the requests Monday evening.

In other business, the council approved the cancellation of the general election for the positions of mayor and Wards 1, 2 and 4. City Secretary Rhonda Williams reported no one is running against the incumbents in those positions and therefore, the city will save money by canceling the elections for those positions.
