Texan Baseball 7th in first South Central Regional rankings

STEPHENVILLE (April 23, 2015) – The NCAA released the first South Central regional baseball rankings and Tarleton cracks the list at No. 7 in the poll.

The Texans are 19-18 overall and are fourth in the Lone Star Conference with a 12-14 record.

Of the eight teams ranked in the South Central region, four come from the Lone Star Conference. West Texas A&M (28-15) sits fourth to lead all LSC teams. Angelo State (28-14) is fifth, and Texas A&M-Kingsville (26-16) ranks just ahead of Tarleton at sixth.

Colorado Mesa, the No. 1 team in Division II according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, also holds the top spot in the South Central region.

Colorado St.-Pueblo (2), St. Edward’s (3) and St. Mary’s (8) round out the regional rankings.

The NCAA South Central regional tournament will consist of the tournament champions of the Lone Star, Rocky Mountain Athletic and Heartland conferences as well as five at-large teams. The top seed in the South Central region will host the regional tournament.

Tarleton will have a chance to climb the rankings this weekend with a three-game series against No. 4 West Texas A&M at Cecil Ballow Complex starting Saturday at 3 p.m. and a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
