STEPHENVILLE (April 30, 2015) — Get your bids ready, it’s time for the 43rd annual Stpehenville Optimist Club auction.
The event begins with a 5 p.m. public dinner, followed by the start of the silent auction at 5:30 p.m. with the live auction to follow at 6:30 p.m., all at Wisdom Gym on the campus of Tarleton State University.
Items up for bidding range from baked goods and honey to suites at Rangers and Cowboys games, and a little of everything in between. The best part? All the proceeds benefit local youth.
Bidders must register and receive a buyer’s number, and must pay (Visa and MasterCard accepted) or leave billing information before leaving the auction. Items purchased and not taken Friday evening must be picked up at Foster’s Home for Children by Friday, May 8.
But you don’t even have to go to the auction to do your bidding. Thanks to a partnership with Northland Communications, the auction will be televised locally on Northland Channel 9, and bids will be accepted over the phone. Auction chairperson Cheryl Hatton suggests calling in early with your maximum bid for a paritculary item (or items), to avoid missing out. The numbers for phone bidding are 254.918.7602, 254.918.7603 and 254.918.7604.
Phone bidders wishing to see a list of items with lot numbers may email bradkeith55@gmail.com to request a .PDF version of the annual Optimist auction tabloid. A complete tabloid will be available online on The Flash Today beginning Thursday night.
Part of Optimist International, the Stephenville Optimist Club looks to the auction as its primary fundraiser each year, and the funds allow the club to benefit programs such as All-Stars, a sports program for special needs youth, the Stephenville golf and track and field teams, Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department youth leagues, SHS Band, SHS Project Graduation, the SHS Academic Hall of Fame, Erath County Junior Livestock Show and much more.
