Tarleton baseball, softball teams move up in regional rankings

STEPHENVILLE (April 30, 2015) — Tarleton State is in position to make the NCAA regionals in both baseball and softball.

For now.

In the ever-changing world of Division II regional rankings, the Tarleton baseball team (20-20) moved up a spot to sixth this week, while the TexAnn softball team (29-19) inched forward to No. 8. The Lone Star, Heartland and Rocky Mountain Athletic conference champions receive automatic bids to the South Central Region Championship, while five other teams will be selected at large to complete the eight-team fields.

The TexAnns are the No. 3 seed in this weekend’s Lone Star Conference Championship, hosted by top seed West Texas A&M in Canyon. Tarleton opens against No. 6 seed Texas A&M-Commerce at 11 a.m. Friday.

The Texans conclude their regular season with a three-game set at Texas A&M-Kingsville. They face off at 6 p.m. Friday before a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
