Giddings earns trip to state, Jackets tie for 9th in region

Boys score 24 points, girls tally six at Region I-4A meet

(May 3, 2015) — Stephenville won a pair of medals and tied for ninth in the boys team standings at the Region I-4A track and field meet at Fuller Track in Lubbock Friday and Saturday.

And one Yellow Jacket is continuing his season at the state meet.

Jon Clark Giddings fought though injuries to a quad and an ankle late in the season to clear 14 feet, 6 inches and placed second in the region in the boys pole vault. He will compete in state at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, and Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Cameron Reynolds just missed on a trip to state, coming in third in the shot put with a best heave of 50-03.25, giving the Jackets 14 points in the field.

The remaining 10 points came in the 4×400 meter relay and the 110 meter hurdles. Tyler Griffin, Jose DeSaracho, Dawson Gray and Ben Martin placed fourth in the 4×400, completing the race in 3 minutes, 28.42 seconds. Stufflebean placed fourth in the hurdles in 15.73.

Stephenville had three girls relay teams at the regional and one – the 4×200 – made the finals. Kylee Ponder, Cassidy Cline, Hailey Martin and Maddi Cashell placed sixth in 1:45.44. Two of the members of that relay – Ponder and Cashell – also made the finals in individual events. Ponder was fourth in the 100, stopping the clock in 12.48 seconds, and Cashell finished seventh in the 200 in 27.21.
