Shuttle service to be made available for spring commencement guests

STEPHENVILLE (May 5, 2015) — To accommodate the increased number of guests expected on campus for Tarleton State University’s spring commencement ceremonies the university has announced plans to operate its free shuttle services on Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10.

The Tarleton shuttle service will be available for campus guests on Saturday from 7 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m., and on Sunday the shuttle will be available from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., to ferry passengers to Wisdom Gym where commencement ceremonies will be held.

Two shuttles will be in service both days with one designated on a route carrying passengers from the Remote Lots (P-34) near the Tarleton baseball/softball fields and Horticulture Center. A second shuttle will operate from Lot P-20, located on the west side of Memorial Stadium along Harbin Drive. Both shuttles will drop off passengers at the shuttle stop on Sloan Street adjacent to the tennis courts and Wisdom Gym.

University Police have announced that Rome Street will be closed to through traffic due to the expected high volume of pedestrians accessing Wisdom Gym for spring commencement. Visitors for commencement may still enter campus from Frey Street, however, Rome Street will be closed from the entrance to Lot P-26 (Nursing Building) south towards the Sloan Street intersection.

Six ceremonies, one for each of the university’s academic colleges, are scheduled, with the first set to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, for bachelor’s degrees from the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. The College of Education will award undergraduate degrees at 11:30 a.m., followed by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at 2 p.m. and the College of Business Administration at 4:30 p.m.

On Sunday, May 10, the College of Science and Technology will hold its ceremony at 1 p.m., followed by the College of Graduate Studies at 3:30 p.m., when all master’s and doctoral candidates will receive their diplomas. All master’s candidates also will receive their hoods upon crossing the stage at commencement.

Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio will preside as 985 bachelor’s, 209 master’s and 10 doctoral degrees will be awarded.

The university will award an honorary doctorate of humane letters to alumnus Lance Crosby, who earned bachelor’s degrees in finance and management (1995) and a master of business administration (1996) from Tarleton. He later attended Texas Wesleyan University and earned a juris doctorate in 1999 from that institution’s school of law. Crosby is a licensed attorney in the state of Texas and an active member of the State Bar of Texas.

  1. That’s. Nice. They only come out to rural erath county on tues . And Thursday. For the elderly who are sick and need to go to Dr. And you best be out before 5pm.
