(May 6, 2015) — Following the first of three rounds at the Super Region IV Women’s Golf Championship Monday, Tarleton was tied for sixth place.

Three strokes out of last.

Then, the TexAnns turned it around.

Tarleton improved 16 strokes to shoot 291 in the second round Tuesday, the best team round of the tournament by three strokes at the 5,842-yard, par-72 Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, California. The TexAnns leaped three spots to third on the team leaderboard.

Firmly back in contention, Tarleton then fired the fourth best score of the tournament, a 295 on Wednesday, to return to a familiar position – atop the final leaderboard and in possession of a super region championship.

The TexAnns won the super regional for the eighth time in nine years – all under head coach Jerry Doyle – and are headed to their ninth consecutive Division II Championship at The Meadows in Allendale, Michigan next Wednesday through Saturday, May 13-16.

Three-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year Isabell Jimenez Perea tied for third overall after tying for first in last year’s super regional. Jimenez-Perea, a junior, fired rounds of 74-71-76 for a total of five-over-par 221.

Sophomore Beatriz Prados (76-72-74=222) was a stroke back in a tie for sixth, and another stroke back was freshman Casey Wild (78-74-71=223) in a tie for 10th.

Freshmen Sarah Gee (79-79-74=232) and Kerbey Kipp (81-74-85=240) rounded out Tarleton’s roster, with the top four scores comprising the team score for each round.

Five strokes behind Tarleton was St. Edward’s (898), while Sonoma State (Calif.) (294-300-308=902) claimed the third national championship berth in third.

Crystal Wang of the Academy of Art and Brenna Moore of Midwestern State tied atop the individual leaderboard and will join Hee-Leina Kim of Colorado State-Pueblo as medalists at the national championship. Wang and Moore each fired three-round totals of 220, while Kim was one of three players – including Jimenez-Perea of Tarleton – who tied for third at 221. Kim defeated Sydney Williams in a playoff to determine the final spot in next week’s championship.
