STEPHENVILLE — The Cross Timbers Fellowship of Christian Athletes held its first annual FCA All-Star Showcase at the First Baptist Church Paradigm building Thursday evening.
The area’s nine FCA all-stars were recognized and a host of honors distributed recognizing huddle coaches and student leaders from Tarleton State University, Stephenville High School, Dublin High School, Huckabay High School, Henderson Junior High and Morgan Mill School.
Area all-stars competing in Abilene, Brownwood and San Angelo this summer are football players Josh Gillespie, Colby Stone and Justice Wisener from Stephenville and Brady Holleman from Dublin, volleyball players Kelcee Jones from Stephenville and Sunny Clark from Dublin, girls basketball standout Cassidy Cline of Stephenville, softball player Sierra Varnado of Stephenville and cheerleader Lauren Traylor of Dublin.
The first annual Cross Timbers FCA Tom Landry Legacy Award was presented to former Stephenville athletic director and head football coach Joseph Gillespie, who thanked the crowd via video sent from the University of Tulsa where he is now linebackers coach. His wife, Jodi Gillespie, accepted the plaque in his stead.
Ed Dittfurth, pastor of Cornerstone Assembly, praised the efforts of Cross Timbers FCA and area representative Carrie Normand.
“My wife and I have been in the ministry since 1991 and never have I seen a collective effort of this magnitude to reach youth for Christ,” said Dittfurth as he eyed the large crowd. “It’s so great to see the Lord at work this way in our community.”
