STEPHENVILLE (June 2, 2015) – After helping Tarleton State to a record-setting season in her first year on the sidelines, Jessie Ramirez has resigned as the top volleyball assistant coach to pursue other career opportunities.

“Jessie was a phenomenal asset to our volleyball program and our athletic department. I’m sad to see her go, but I wish her nothing but the best,” said head coach Mary Schindler. “Jessie has meant so much to this program – first as a player and now as a coach – that its hard to imagine TexAnn Volleyball without her – but she has a good opportunity waiting for her closer to her family.”

Ramirez, who played under her surname Hartman and joined the TexAnn coaching staff last August, helped Tarleton State to a school-record 24 wins in her first season as a coach. The TexAnns also claimed the school’s first LSC Tournament Championship and NCAA playoff berth with Ramirez on the sideline last year.

Prior to arriving at Tarleton last year, Ramirez played for the TexAnns from 2008-11 and is the school’s all-time leader in sets played with 491 games in her four-year career and was a two-year team captain for the TexAnns.

She guided Tarleton to the LSC Semifinals of the Championship Tournament in three of her four years and was a two-time honorable mention all-conference and commissioner’s honor roll. She is also second on the all-time assist list with 3,266 assists and is one of two players in school history with 1,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs (1,065) in a career.

After her playing career, Ramirez coached volleyball, basketball and tennis for Smithson Valley Middle School in her hometown of San Antonio. She was named the SVMS Teacher of the Year for 2013-14. She also coached a select volleyball team, 12 Gold, for the Alamo Volleyball Association before coming back to Stephenville.

In her five years associated with Tarleton State as a player and a coach, Ramirez was a part of 98 total victories – including the first-ever NCAA South Central Regional Tournament game against No. 20 Metro State last season.

She graduated from Tarleton in 2012 with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree with an emphasis on Kinesiology and graduated with a 3.2 grade point average.

The hiring process to fill the vacated position is currently ongoing.
