STEPHENVILLE (June 9, 2015) — Easton Jones throws it up, Josh Nowell pulls it down. Jones goes the other way, Darian Brown takes his turn at an acrobatic catch.
It’s just 7-on-7, or as former Stephenville head coach Joseph Gillespie once said, “First of all, it’s touch football,” but a special connection already appears to be forming between the quarterback – Jones will be just a sophomore this fall – and his standout receivers – Nowell and Brown are each seniors and returning starters, with Nowell drawing looks from Big 12 members and other high-major Division I programs.
Jones hit Nowell for four touchdowns and Brown for two scores on his way to tossing 10 TDs to six different receivers as the Jackets ran over Cleburne 35-6 and turned back Aledo 33-27 in weekly 7-on-7 league play held Tuesday evening at the SHS practice fields.
Jones also hit Aaron Burrows for a TD against Cleburne, and tossed scores to Malachi Taylor, Mason Yoes and Cameron Frazier against Aledo.
Mason Holstein intercepted a Cleburne pass and Landon Reeves picked off one in the win over Aledo.
