STEPHENVILLE (June 17, 2015) — Asher Quinn Hoxie, 38, was arrested in Stephenville on Tuesday by Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Rangers and Erath County Sheriff’s deputies for allegedly stealing 240 head of cattle and 30 horses that he was supposed to be watching for an Odessa rancher.
According to TSCRA officials, the victim had an injury and Hoxie and his wife told the rancher that they would take care of the cattle and horses. It is believed that Hoxie did not expect the victim to live as a result of the injury. Instead of looking after the animals, investigators, who worked for months on the case, say Hoxie sold the animals, valued at over $200,000, in 2012.
Hoxie was held in the Erath County Jail on a $500,000 bond for charges of misapplication of fiduciary property of over $200,000. That bond was reduced to $20,000 on Wednesday and Hoxie bonded out. TSCRA Rangers say they are attempting to track down the stolen cattle and horses and further charges could be filed.
In addition to these charges, Hoxie has several past out of state charges, including another charge of theft. Those are shown below:
