STEPHENVILLE (June 25, 2015) — The Stephenville Evening Lions Club is closing a fiscal year in which it donated approximately $140,000 to local youth organizations, charities and special causes.

More than $77,000 of that has been donated since April 17, the date of the 20th annual Upland Bird Extravaganza that raised more than $188,000.

“We would once again like to thank our sponsors and supporters,” said 2014 Extravaganza chairman and 2015-16 club president Ricky Thurman by email Thursday. “It is only because of our supporters that Stephenville Evening Lions Club is able to provide help to so many incredible organizations and special causes in our community.”

Evening Lions Club made donations through the last fiscal year to Boy Scout Troop 18, Backpack Buddy Program, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cub Pack 18, local Girl Scout Troop, Kappa Delta Rho, BBQ, Bands and Bottle Rockets,  Dublin Future Problem Solving Team, Meals on Wheels, Stephenville Education Foundation, Foster’s Home for Children, Stephenville Soccer Association and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erath County.

The club encourages donation requests, which can be emailed to secretary@eveninglions.com.

The 21st annual Extravaganza will be under the direction of longtime club member and past president Kyle Masters. Plans for the 2016 event will be announced soon, said Thurman by email.
