STEPHENVILLE (June 29, 2015) — It’s only four days until July 4th and The Flash is here to give you the rundown of where the excitement will be this Saturday. There is a lot going on in Stephenville and by a lot, we mean something for absolutely everyone.
The action starts bright and early with vendors, games and all kinds of excitement setting up for BBQ, Bands & Bottle Rockets on the Bosque in the Stephenville City Park from 6-9 a.m. The parade, which begins in the city park, starts at 9:30 a.m. Events in the city park kick off at 10 a.m. with Dakota Drummond on the PT Stage and all booths and vendors opening as well. Live music continues throughout the day on the PT Stage, with even more excitement continuing on the TexStar Stage at 5:30 p.m.
There are a few quick changes to note about this year’s parade. Most importantly, the route will be running backward. That means it will start in the park, moving up Graham to Washington Street before turning on St. Felix and ending at Tarleton.
“We’ve switched it up this year,” said Barbara Haggard with SPARD. “We’ll start in the Stephenville City Park and end by going up St. Felix Street to Tarleton.”
Then there’s always the ones in the group who need a little more adrenaline than others. For those thrill seekers of the group, there are lawn mower races beginning with registration at noon and heats beginning at 1 p.m. in the park. Come test your need for speed or just come watch as locals take turns around the track.
Bottle Rockets is what event planners are calling the kids’ fun booth section of the festivities. This area will include various crafts and games for kids. Booths will be run by non-profit organizations and a portion of the proceeds from the bracelet sales to enter will be divided among the participating groups. If you’re a non-profit and are interested in participating, it’s not too late to sign up.
There will also be plenty of vendor booths for the shopper in the group. There will be everything from toys and balloons for the kids to arts and crafts and food vendors for the hungry people in the group. Event organizers will have vendors under the big pavilion in the city park until 5 p.m.
In addition to all the fun and games for the kiddos and the vendors, there will also be a whole mess of cooking contests including an ice cream freeze off (check-in at 11 a.m. and judging at noon) and, of course, a BBQ cook off (turn-in times at noon for chicken, 1 p.m. for pork ribs, 2 p.m. for brisket and 2:30 p.m. for beans). Winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
Bottle Rockets, merchant vendors and the PT Stage close at 5 p.m. and the excitement shifts to the TexStar Ford Stage where Jon Young will takeover the live music at 5:30 p.m. City planners said the fireworks would start just after dark, following the final artist on the TexStar Ford Stage.
