STEPHENVILLE (June 30, 2015) — Ben Clements of the United States Team Roping Championships is a patriotic guy. He’s also a cowboy, and proud to be both.

Clements is bringing patriotism and rodeo together this weekend when he and his wife, Jodi, produce first Summer Blast team roping with part of the proceeds benefitting the Navy Seal Foundation.

“Rodeo, team roping, all of that is pretty much the All-American cowboy sport,” said Clements, who also produces the Jingle Bell Classic. “Since we’re benefiting the Navy Seal Foundation, I thought the 4th of July was a pretty good time for it.”

Books are open from 7:30-8:30 a.m. before roping begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lone Star Arena. The open is first up, followed by #15, #13 and #12.

The 30/30 Big Guns Roping begins at 7 p.m. with more than $50,000 to average and fastest time winners. The team that wins the average wins $30,000 and trophy rifles.

Books are open from 7:30-8:30 a.m. again Sunday with the #11, #10 and #9 competitions beginning at 9 a.m.

“We do the Jingle Bell Classic right before Christmas and it benefits the Foster’s Home and the Mobile Soup Kitchen. It draws about 1,000 teams,” said Clements. “With this being our first go-round with this one and a lot going on with the Fourth of July, I would think we’ll have somewhere between 400 and 500 teams.”

Clements said Lone Star Arena and Stephenville make the ideal location for the event.

“Lone Star is a great facility and of course Stephenville is a great host community for such an event,” said Clements. “We just enjoy being able to bring something like this right here to our home town.”
