(July 6, 2015) — Your 21st birthday is one that should stand out.
Marty Yates will certainly never forget his 21st birthday Monday. After all, it’s not every day you win a go-round at the famed Calgary Stampede, the richest invite-only tournament rodeo on the planet.
Yates celebrated birthday 21 by winning round four of the Pool A tie-down roping in 7.5 seconds Monday, just two days after he won round two in a blistering 6.8. The 2013 Huckabay High School graduate and 2014 National Finals Rodeo qualifier won $5,500 for each round. He will move on to the finals at Calgary, where he will rope against the rest of the top 10 on Sunday, June 12. The top four from the finals will turn around and rope one head in a shootout worth $100,000.
