STEPHENVILLE (July 6, 2015) — Boston Red Sox utility standout Brock Holt has hit for the cycle, sports a .295 batting average and has played every position except for pitcher and catcher this season.
On Monday evening, the rest of Major League Baseball officially took notice.
Holt, a 2007 graduate of Stephenville High School, was named a reserve on the American League All-Star roster Monday. He is the first Stephenville product to become an all-star in a “major” team sport since Hugh Wolfe of the New York Football Giants was named to the Pro Bowl in 1938.
Holt, 27, boasts a .383 on-base percentage and has made 16 starts in right field, 14 at second base, 12 at third, six at shortstop, six in left, three at first and two at center, according to an article published Monday evening by BostonRedSox.com, the official site of the team.
Holt hit for the cycle in a 9-4 Red Sox win over the Atlanta Braves on June 16 at Fenway Park in Boston. Just last Thursday, July 2, he was 4-for-6 in a 12-6 Red Sox road win over AL East rival Toronto.
The All-Star game is July 14 at Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds.
The Red Sox are currently 39-45 and in last place in the five-team AL East.
