(August 17, 2015) — Tarleton State received 11 points in voting for the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II preseason top 25 poll, released Monday.
The Texans 100 votes shy of cracking the top 25, finishing 43rd in the voting. Reigning Lone Star Conference Playoff champion Angelo State is No. 13, while defending LSC regular season champ Texas A&M-Commerce is No. 22. LSC members West Texas A&M and Midwestern State also received votes in the poll.
Minnesota State-Mankato is No. 1 in the poll despite No. 2 and reigning national champ Colorado State-Pueblo receiving the most first-place votes with 16. Behind them in the top five is Minnesota Duluth, West Georgia and Northwest Missouri State. The rest of the top 10, in order, are Ferris State (Mich.), Pittsburg State (Kan.), Ohio Dominican, Concord (W.Va.) and Lenoir-Rhyne (NC).
Tarleton was 5-5 last season, finishing third in the inaugural LSC Playoffs. The Texans return nine starters to an offense that was fourth in the nation with 522.8 yards per game and eighth with 43.7 points, but are looking to improve defensively after surrendering 448.5 yards and 33.8 points.
