Students’ talents showcased at annual Transition Week Talent Show

Nearly two-dozen contestants took to the stage inside Wisdom Gym Saturday evening when Tarleton State University’s Residential Living & Learning staff hosted the annual Transition Week Talent Show. Several hundred students attended the event that featured vocalists, a magician and another student who could jump over his own leg. Three winners were selected by a panel of judges to conclude the Talent Show, with each receiving Texan Bucks as prizes. Pictured (l-r) are Talent Show co-host Jeremiah Fontenot; 1st place winner Cheyenne Holt who sang Miranda Lambert’s “Famous in a Small Town”; 2nd place winner Gavin McNaney, a self-taught magician who made a page from a book disappear; 3rd place winner Amanda Sparks, who performed Taylor Swift’s “I’d Lie” on guitar while singing the popular tune; and Talent Show co-host Dernote Washington.

  1. Hi I was in the very first talent show I think it started in the 80’s. I won every talent show I was in.it moved from in front of the student building to the new bulig art building dedicated on my birth day December 6. My teach was prof emeritus Dr Mary Jane Mingus. On my request to come back special performances after I graduate many years after as alumni. There was a film that disappeared of the event. Reel to reel. Danced to torch by the jacksons. I won at 53 a show call dance club 21. Channel 21 has the footage. I also was on Ricky smiley tv talent show. I made it to the semi finals in last Vegas on America got talent.
