STEPHENVILLE (September 8, 2015) — Tarleton State (4-0) is off to its best start to a season since opening with nine straight wins in 2010, and the TexAnns are still receiving votes in the Division II coaches poll.

For the second straight week, the TexAnns did not receive enough votes to crack the top 25. In fact, Tarleton dropped 14 votes despite winning 12 of 14 sets and posting a number of personal highlights over the weekend at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational in San Angelo. The TexAnns received 37 votes in the preseason poll and 23 this week.

Tampa (Fla) holds a slight edge over Southwest Minesota State and Minnesota-Duluth for No. 1 in the rankings. The only ranked team from the Lone Star Conference is No. 24 West Texas A&M. Angelo State received 69 voting points.

Tarleton welcomes Howard Payne to Stephenville and Wisdom Volleyball Gym at 7 p.m. Tuesday. It’s the home opener for the TexAnns, heavy favorites against the Division III foe from Brownwood.

The Tarleton football team received 12 voting points in polling of coaches. Minnesota State-Mankato is ranked No. 1, followed immediately by reigning national champ Colorado State-Pueblo. The top LSC team is No. 12 Angelo State, followed by No. 18 Texas A&M-Commerce. Midwestern State received 35 voting points, not enough to make the top 25.

Tarleton opens its football season at home Saturday against Findlay (Ohio). Kickoff at Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
