Ranger College women sprint to 7th at 2015 Bill Libby Invitational

ABILENE – The Ranger College women’s cross country team kicked off its 2015 season on a high note on Friday by turning in a solid performance at the Bill Libby Invitational in Abilene’s Nelson Park. As a team, the Lady Rangers finished 7^th in the overall standings.

Benisse Inamahoro paced Ranger’s efforts in the 5-kilometer race. The freshman from Burundi sprinted to a 23^rd-place finish in the women’s race with a time of 21 minutes and 9.02 seconds.

Barbara Uribe also turned in a strong outing for Ranger College. A freshman from Cherokee, Texas, she legged out a top 30 finish in her first collegiate outing. Uribe finished 28^th overall with a time of 21:35.40.

Lourdes Gonzalez and Jayden Whitzel also logged top 50 finishes. A freshman from Dallas, Gonzalez placed 35^th with a time of 22:21.50. Whitzel, a freshman from Carlsbad, N.M., placed 50^th at 23:36.16.

Angok Tac, Autumn Freasier, Dulce Ochoa and Kanya Johnson also competed in the meet. Tak finished 53^rd, while Freasier checked in at No. 60. Ochoa and Johnson finished 65^th and 72^nd, respectively.

Abilene Christian University won the women’s overall team title. Angelo State University and Texas Wesleyan took second and third, respectively.

The Ranger College women will return to action on Sept. 18 when they compete in the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Classic.
